Beowulf (Mythological Criticism)

Beowulf. it is a poem in which the author is unknown, neither the time that was written. Currently there is film since 2007. In this poem/movie the characters face many struggles, for instance, Grendel is a demon and appears at the beginning the poem/movie, he kilt many people in the Hrothgar´s kingdom, and another demon is his mother, who wants to take revenge about Grendel’s dead. The hard circumstances and the conflicts that characters face in the mystic poem/film, is not the same as the real life, however at the moment people have many conflicts such as, violence, in every sense of the word. People are acting violently when they feel threatened, or they get mad for any hard situations. Revenge; currently people do whatever they want and if they do not get what they want, they take revenge, and, compared with the poem/film people takes revenge even for their jobs, family, and friends the unique difference is that in “Beowulf” the demon is who takes revenge not the people.

In the poem/movie “Beowulf” appears some symbols, such as Beowulf who is a heroic man that represents courage, strength at the same time lies. Grendel, the Dragon and their mother represent evil, revenge and violence. Water that symbolizes life; Grendel´s birth who is Hrothgar´s son and then the dragon’s birth, who is Beowulf’s son and the Grendel´s mother. Then, life cycle; Grendel was Hrothgar’s son, his sin was to take Grendel’s mother as his woman, as a result of their sin Grendel born, after that, Beowulf pass the same cycle, getting the Grendel’s mother, the consequence was the Dragon’s birth who was a man, he fight with his father “Beowulf.

The Trophy it represents proud and the sin. Proud; when the king Hrothgar won the fight against others he got the trophy. Sin; when Grendel and the Dragon appear the trophy appears at the same time. In real life when something starts to look negative is because bad situations are coming to people life.
In real life, this kind of situations, do not exist, but, there are many spirits or demons, that people cannot see, but we have to fight with.

Why did Beowulf lay saying that he kilt the mother´s Grendel? why does the damn continue in the story?

Probably, Langston Hughes inspired from his childhood experience and he wrote "Thank You, M'am" because he grew up with his maternal grandmother for the reason that, when he was a baby his parents separated, his father moved to Mexico and his mother moved constantly during his youth. This short story tells about an old woman who takes a role of a mother just for a short period of time, because Roger is boy, he is alone with anyone who cares him. Probably Langston wanted represent his grandmother into Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones because she raised him in his childhood until she died when he was a teenager. The novel “Uglies” is about “uglies” and “Pretties” when people are sixteen years old they have an operation to turn pretties because they born being uglies. After the operation they have to move to Prettie town because before sixteen  the live in Ugly town . This novel reflects a huge issue that our society is suffering. Most people want to be accepted for the society.
