Conclusion

Throughout Literary Criticism I learn different types of criticism such as Traditional, Sociological, Formalist, Psychoanalytical and Mythological criticism. The stories I criticized were "Thank You, M´am", "Harrison Bergeron", "Uglies", “The Rocking Horse Winner”, "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?". Those stories are very interesting. When I read I can imagen if I were inside the stories. I could learn about the authors of each story because in their writing there is a part of their real life, they transmit a message to the readers, each story has its own purpose, and I could make different critics throughout them. I learned what I expected, important aspects about above readings, and I enjoyed those stories and enriched my critic point of view about reading. It is important to know that readings can teach people many things about life; people should enjoy reading and try to think about the readings messages.

    Very true! It is also important the think about everything you read. Even some news stories are published as being real news when it is really just a gimmick to sell a newspaper or get people to read the articles on line.

Thank You M´am (Traditional Criticism, Langston Hughes)

Probably, Langston Hughes inspired from his childhood experience and he wrote "Thank You, M'am" because he grew up with his maternal grandmother for the reason that, when he was a baby his parents separated, his father moved to Mexico and his mother moved constantly during his youth. This short story tells about an old woman who takes a role of a mother just for a short period of time, because Roger is boy, he is alone with anyone who cares him. Probably Langston wanted represent his grandmother into Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones because she raised him in his childhood until she died when he was a teenager. In this story "Thank You, M'am" Langston talks about two important themes such as shame when he's reprimanded for trying to steal; and forgiveness, when Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones gave Roger a second chance and teaches him an important lesson about dignity and respect and also that people can do right things in hard circumstances. The novel “Uglies” is about “uglies” and “Pretties” when people are sixteen years old they have an operation to turn pretties because they born being uglies. After the operation they have to move to Prettie town because before sixteen  the live in Ugly town . This novel reflects a huge issue that our society is suffering. Most people want to be accepted for the society. Specially, teenagers want to be pretties, they compare by themselves with others and in many cases they do not accept the appearance they have because they think they are not as pretties as they want to be. Adolescents want to look like famous people, such as physically, how they wear, how they talk and also the way they act. But why people desire to be and look like other?
